December 11, 2007 (Nagoya) / December 12, 2007 (Osaka) / December 14, 2007 (Tokyo)
Organizer: VINAS Co., Ltd.
See below for abstracts of presentations. Abstracts are listed in the order of seminar program.
Opening speech Yasuhiko Fujikawa, President & CEO, VINAS Co., Ltd.
Further reduction of weight and improvements of performance and safety are sought after in automotive and other industrial products. In order to achieve these targets, introduction of design optimization technology and efficient use of software tools are important. This opening speech summarizes use of design optimization technology as a key element in product design process.

Case study session "Current status of structural optimization in European automotive industry"
- Current status in BMW, Audi and TRW - Toru Sugino, Marketing Manager, VINAS Co., Ltd.
This presentation describes application examples in following European automakers and parts manufacturers.
- Structural optimization by Audi
- Study of load bearing path in BMW
- Use of TOSCA and its benefits in TRW
User presentation "Optimization of automotive antivibration rubber parts" Kenichiro Iwasaki, Antivibration rubber technology development department, Testing and analysis unit, Bridgestone Corporation
This presentation by Bridgestone Corporation describes their examples of using TOSCA (non-parametric structure optimization tool) and ABAQUS (FEA software) for design optimization of automotive antivibration rubber parts.
Antivibration parts used in engine mounts and suspension bush are a combination of rubber and metal (BRKT). They support mechanical load and damp and isolate vibration. Rubber portion of such a component must have high damping property and excellent durability, while metal portion must satisfy certain requirements regarding eigenvalues and strength, which makes FEA analysis and design optimization necessary in the development process.
TOSCA can handle non-linear analysis very well, utilize existing mesh generate by 3D CAD or mesher software, and allows automation of optimization loop. In addition to presentation of optimization examples, future challenges will be discussed.
Closing session "Workflow of initial projects of structural design optimization" Toru Sugino, Marketing Manager, VINAS Co., Ltd.
This session describes workflow of an initial project in which scope and objectives of optimization are set, method to achieve them is defined, and quantitative benefits to be obtained is clarified.
