"Latest turbo machinery CFD technologies implemented in FINE/Turbo V7 and FINE/Design3D V2" *
Yoshiyuki Sawa, CFD Technical Division, VINAS Co., Ltd.
User application examples of the programs in turbo machinery and other areas are introduced, with a focus on implementation and benefits of them in CFD design projects. |
"NUMECA advanced new developments in service to industry"
Mr. Marc Tombroff, General Manager, NUMECA International
The presentation will illustrate the new main features of the NUMECA s oftware, offering unique technology and approach to current industrial requirement in steady and unsteady CFD analysis, design and optimization. Current, improved and new features such as the Non Linear Harmonic, the Conjugate Heat Transfer analysis, the cavitation model, the new grid topologies or the multi-point optimization will be illustrated based on a series of industrial applications and examples.

10:20 - 11:10 |
"Full Stage CFD Simulation of Turbochargers with FINE/Turbo"
Mr. Wenquei Winston Lin, Ph.D., Principal Engineer,
Core Technology,Honeywell
This presentation describes some of the advanced applications of FINE/Turbo in full stage CFD simulation for turbomachinery analysis and design optimization at Honeywell Turbo Technologies. With increasing needs of understanding complex physical phenomena and the advent of high performance computing on Linux clusters, full stage CFD simulations have become one of the key activities in the virtual product development process aimed to reduce design cycle time and costly prototyping. At HTT, FINE/Turbo had been widely used for simple component and wheel-only analysis in the past and full stage simulation now with ever-growing competence in meshing as well as analysis. |
11:10 - 12:00 |
"An overview of current technology in radial compressor and turbine analysis and design"
Dr. Alain Demeulenaere , Manager, NUMECA USA, Inc. |
12:00 - 13:15 |
Lunch / Demonstration |
Co-Sponsored Speech |
13:15 - 13:35 |
"Introducing Microsoft's HPC strategic framework through the Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003 product" *
Mr. Kenichi Hayashi
HPC Technical Evangelist, Windows Server Product Marketing,
Server Platform Business Group,
Microsoft Co., Ltd.
Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003 is the first high performance computing solution offered by Microsoft. In this session we will introduce Microsoft's HPC and show how it is friendly to users, administrators and developers. |
Structural Design Optimization |
13:35 - 14:20 |
"Impacts on product quality, reliable engineering and competitiveness for OEMs and manufacturer by using optimization methods like TOSCA in a early phase in the design cycle"
Mr. Boris Lauber, FE-DESIGN GmbH
(Shinji Morita, CAE Technical Division, VINAS Co., Ltd.)
The use of optimization technologies in a very early design phase allows to generate good quality design proposals. Starting from a rough idea of the maximum allowed design space, topology optimization may distribute the material in order to fulfill the design goals. A following shape optimization may improve the products performance by reducing stress peaks or increasing the components lifetime. TOSCA and the integration of the optimization technology in existing CAE environments will be illustrated and real world examples will be presented.

14:20 - 14:50 |
"Proposal of optimization method of stiffness and fatigue of spot-weld structures" *
Mr. Noriyuki Muramatsu, Manager, Sales & Engineering
MAGNA POWERTRAIN, Engineering Center Steyr,
A Division of Magna International Inc.
As a way to improve quality of structural design in its early design phase, proposed method of reducing the number of spot-weld points in structures through stiffness and fatigue optimization carried out by structural optimization software TOSCA and fatigue life prediction software FEMFAT is introduced. |
14:50 - 15:05 |
Coffee Break/Demonstration |
CFD Optimization and CAD Interface |
15:05 - 15:45 |
"Introduction of optimization examples of Sculptor" *
Shigeki Maeda, CFD Technical Division, VINAS Co., Ltd.
This session introduces significant cost-down in CFD analysis work made possible by high-speed mesh morphing function of Sculptor and user examples of product geometry optimization enabled by linking Sculptor with optimization engine, as well as latest previews of Sculptor's next version. |
15:45 - 16:25 |
"Introduction of "3Matic 2.2", an STL-base geometry editing software" *
Masaya Tani, CFD Technical Division, VINAS Co., Ltd.
This session introduces use of 3Matic software in preparation of analysis model in which quality of STL mesh (triangular surface mesh) is improved and geometry of the mesh is simplified, as well as application examples in reverse engineering and other areas. |
